I am very pleased to offer a 2-year position (assegno di ricerca) in my group at the University of Padova. The contract can commence in February 2025 but the starting date is relatively flexible. An extension of the contract for 6 additional months is also possible. The project is funded under the 'Progetti di Eccellenza Cariparo' framework.

This is a structural biology project aimed at the complete understanding of cofactor-independent uric acid degradation by the archetypal urate oxidase enzyme. Our overarching goal is to establish a general mechanistic framework for cofactor-independent oxygenation/oxidation catalysis in biological systems. The project is very mature and it offers the unique opportunity to apply not only conventional X-ray crystallography but also state-of-the-art serial X-ray, electron, and neutron crystallographic techniques to the enzyme system under investigation. Established collaborations with several research institutes/universities (ILL-Grenoble, University of Stockholm, MLZ-Garching, University of Parma, University of Salamanca) and synchrotrons (ESRF-Grenoble, DESY-Hamburg) are in place and the researcher employed on this project will have the chance to interact from world-experts in their disciplines and spend some time in their laboratories.
